5 Tips on Writing About Personal Trauma

Written By: Book Marketing International - Jun• 24•15

1. Write your book to heal before you write to publish – your first few drafts may be just for you.
2. Reach out to your support group – writing is already difficult, and writing about something real to you is so much more. You will  need the support.
3. Start out slowly – take time with planning. Do what works for you.
4. Walk away when you need to – taking a pause in the writing process sometimes is more beneficial than continuous writing.
5. Work with a professional editor- writing about a traumatic experience will bring up complicated emotions. You may need to seek help. Don’t be afraid of asking for it.

However, well-written books about traumatic experiences can be both healing for the author, and successful commercially.
